History and development of the World Trade Center Dresden

25 years of the World Trade Center Dresden (In German)

Construction began in 1993

During the GDR era, the site of today's World Trade Center Dresden was home to a factory belonging to the VEB Dresdner Süßwarenfabriken "Elbflorenz". During the fall of the Berlin Wall, production in the candy factory was stopped because there were no interested buyers for the business and the descendants of the previous owners also refused to take it over.

In 1993, work began on the first World Trade Center in East Germany. A building complex with around 90,000 square meters of office and commercial space was created, spread over 7 and 16 floors respectively, and accessed via 16 representative entrance lobbies. After opening, the World Trade Center Dresden had a total of 28 high-speed elevators and more than 1,000 parking spaces in the two-story underground car park.

Completion and development into Dresden’s leading business, science and administration location

The World Trade Center Dresden was completed in 1996 and officially opened at the end of the year. The people of Dresden were interested in the WTC and the development of the World Trade Center Dresden into Dresden's leading business, science and administration location began.

Some of the first tenants are still in the building today, such as the Hotel Elbflorenz, IBM Germany, DAK as well as Reiseservice Rantzsch, Blumen & Florales Zetzschke and presse & tabak Martina Komm. This tenant loyalty and the fact that many existing tenants are constantly growing speaks for the attractiveness of the World Trade Center Dresden location and the management focused on tenant satisfaction.
